Family Matters
The adventures of married life and the vital importance of self-care, whether you are married or not. My cooking hacks to make your life a little easier, some family favorite recipes and introducing the “bake it like betty” series where I do my own little spin on baking and blogging a la “Julie & Julia” style through my Grandma Betty’s recipes. Pray for me, she occasionally measured by “a pinch of” or a “half tea cup full of”. A tea cup?! It’s a white belt baker wading into black belt waters.
Faith Matters
Have you taken the time lately to notice just how much you have been impacted by the people God has intentionally placed around you? I want to create a space to celebrate the powerful stories that surround us, as well as, the power in the act of simply daring to tell our stories. I know many of us have only begun to embrace the perpetual learning curve we find ourselves on. In the midst of ups and downs in uncertain times, we encounter the pivotal life lessons that God uses to help us find balance and perspective on both the rhythm and rubbish-filled days. Also introducing “the letters series” that expresses the way faith has informed how I have sorted through some of life’s most meaningful milestones.
Fun Matters
From my travel tricks and tips in my favorite cities to figuring out what fun looks like in the rhythms of home life, including a series called “what lexi loves”. We can peel back the layers of great books, podcasts and documentaries that are SO worth watching. Having people to do life with is such a big part of “fun”, but can we just agree that it can be rugged to cultivate deep friendships as an adult and to keep older friendships going strong as well?! Ah! Friend! We have much to discuss!!
So there I was..
Two weeks into what I thought could be my dream job,
my first new job in nearly a decade,
and in walks Covid into the equation.
Just. Like. That.
The new job blows me a kiss goodbye
and exits stage left..
In the words of a wise friend of mine: “Pay attention to the spaces you don’t see around you; but you believe ought to be, and go about creating that kind of space.”
That space is called Rhythm & Rubbish and I invite you into this space with me. There is room for everyone. It won’t be the same without you.
A place to laugh, to consider, to sit in wonder together as so many of our stories have common threads and we can learn so much from one another.
I don’t know exactly what my future holds, but I know I want to always remain open to learning, open to listening and open to sharing as I try to sort it all out! ;)
This is a space for all who want to step out of the noise and the “comparison traps”. For people who not only want to lament the divisiveness around them in our culture (and our social media news feeds), but figure out what it actually looks like to instead build bridges to connect with those who think, look, believe, and (*gasp*) vote differently than we do.
We are surrounded with activity and yet at times we feel more lonely than we’d ever expected. We all do. We all get the “followers” and “likes” are a chasing after the wind.
We sidestep fear and worry on a daily basis. Many of us dig in our heels daily, unable to entertain other points of view, not because there lacks truth on both sides, but because we cannot hold the space for life’s many inevitable uncertainties. If we were to acknowledge nuances of varying viewpoints or be open to seeing wisdom in both the “us” and “them”, it would be too damn scary.
I think there is another way. A freedom that comes only when we begin to see control, in our marriages, in parenting, and in life in general, for the illusion it truly is. *collective sigh* Not. Easy. Stuff.
Hugs friend. You are not alone in the rhythm or the rubbish. Come on in. I saved you a seat.
Love,
Lexi
ABOUT ME:
Hi! My name is Lexi King.
I am a wife and mom of 3 young adults living in Reno, Nevada. I grew up in the Midwest and Texas, where I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations. As an adult, I stayed home with my kids for 9 years and then returned to work as an Executive Assistant in 2011. I've lived in California, Texas, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada and almost Alaska. Alas, a story for another day.
My dream is to travel, to share stories, to write, and to make a living doing all 3.
I am known for finding the cutest AirBnBs to stay in near friends’ campsites, sharing the right song at the right time, floral prints, laughter, roosters, loud and dangly earrings, following Jesus, wearing casual dresses with pockets, traveling every chance I get, making white queso dip, being a planner, getting excited about homemade tortillas and sangria margaritas, and knowing where to go get exceptional food almost anywhere...not necessarily in that order.
